Welcome to Saturday Mornings, a look back at BBC Saturday
Morning television since
the launch of Multi-Coloured
Swap Shop in 1976.
| The last update to
Saturday Mornings was made on 12 August 2007
|
We're currently in the planning stages to rebuild the site from the
bottom up to make it better for both you the visitor and the
webmaster too.
The current version of the site still has its foundations from the
original version of the site back in 2000, and of course since then
the webmaster has found lots of better ways to do things to make
administering the site easier.
The new site is well under development and will be, with a bit of
luck, on line in the next few weeks. Until that time comes along
we will not be making anymore updates to this version of the site
(we don't want to be making changes twice!) - you'll just have to
wait for the new version!
It's been well documented on various places around the Internet and
in emails received by the webmaster that the
second series of TMi has been commissioned with
the first show slated to start on 8th September - more details
nearer the time (on the new style site!)

It Started With... Swap Shop was
broadcast in December 2006 to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of BBC
Saturday Morning Television, and Saturday Mornings was very
lucky to be asked to be part of the programme.
Click on the It Started With... option on the blue menu line,
on the banner above, or on the side logo to access our sub-site
which documents this very special programme.

There's a lot going on at Saturday Mornings HQ at the moment away
from this very site which is keeping our attention, but here are a
couple of new items for the Archive and a few bits of video
that have been awaiting uploading - one of them for quite a while...
First a find that we're quite pleased about - a Saturday
SuperStore mug, and secondly there's a T shirt from the CBBC
yellow era.
You'll find a new Video clip over on the It Started With
Swap Shop site featuring the introduction the show had on its
repeat showing on BBC FOUR during their 'Children's
Television on Trial' season, and here on the main site there's the Christmas
titles for TMi which we've finally managed to get on the site
some six and a bit months after they first broadcast...

We hold a great deal of information about each show that has
featured as part of BBC Saturday Morning
television, which can be access from each their own
sections. But, there's other stuff too which have their own
pages... for example...
The Features section allows us to cover some aspects in
more depth, but also lets us stroll slightly away from the
site's subject but keeping it in sight. We've covered Before
the Swappie, Spin Off Shows and what happened when
the then Prime Minister visited Saturday SuperStore. We
also get to showcase our favourite videos in Swing Your Pants
(Trev & Simon) and Nae Body Move (Harry Batt).
The Archive displays items that have a connection with Saturday
Mornings (and also now CBBC in general). We've got all sorts
of stuff from mugs, pens and badges to more
unique items like a Swap Shop Flag and the real Saturday
SuperStore Clock.
Publicity Cards - you know, the signed pictures that the
programmes send out. We've spent the last few years collecting
as many as we can find from across the 30 years and, even if we
say so ourselves, done quite a good job! From Swap Shop to
TMi we've got (most of) them.

The Saturday Mornings webmaster is Martin Whale.
We have taken the decision to no longer publish our e-mail address
directly on the site, but you can make contact with the Webmaster
using our new Contact Us page, where
you can request our current e-mail address to be sent to you or send
us a message directly.
Please note:
This site is put together using just some of our spare time and we
don't have enough of it to be able to answer questions about specific
shows broadcast, nor can we provide footage of shows. Sorry, but E-mails on
these subjects will not normally be responded to.
